Firehall #5 Replacement
Location: Edmonton, AB
Size: 1162 m2
Delivery Method: Stipulated Sum Tender
Status: Completed July 2010
Construction of the new 2 bay Fire Station with offices for the City of Edmonton Fire & Rescue Services Department consisted of a traditional design with exposed glulam trusses and wood decking as part of the architectural feature for the apparatus bay ceiling, and a ground concrete floor finish throughout the facility. LEED Green Certification was issued by CaGBC in May 2015 .
This project features an underground water collection tank which captures rain water and re-uses it within the building. Fire station No.5 was used as a baseline for replacement stations around the city. It was toured by the city and other contractors prior to building other replacement and new fire stations. This project site was in a mature neighborhood, therefore Jen-Col developed a strong relationship with local residents and worked diligently to protect mature trees in the area.
